Assalamualaykum

Br Masum and myself (Sajid) attended the Annual Swalath Nagar gathering in Malapurram District in Kerala, organised by Mahdin Education institute. This was a huge annual event with an estimated 750,000 people attending the 4 day event which takes place every year. The event attracts a variety of speakers from all around the world. This year the event took place from Thursday 9th - Sunday 12th April 2009. During the course of the 4 days the programme hosted various speakers from around the world, the inauguration of a newly built masjid and an exhibition of the institute.  Nasheed Artists such as Moulid from Syria and Usama As-safi from UAE attended the event as well as labbayk being invited to perform. Other known speakers such as the Muezzin of Makkah - Masjid haram, Shaykh Ahmed Ashraf Muneeb from Sunnipath and Imam Qari Tahier from South Africa were amonsgt the many invited to the event.

Br Masum from Labbayk Began with a 10mins speech on Friday evening and performed a 15min nasheed session accompanied by 4 local students on the Saturday evening and was well received by the crowd as this was the first time the people of Kerala had guests from UK/ Europe performing at this event. Alhumdulillah it went well.

The Event overall went smoothly and well alhumdulillah, however the experience of this trip was something totally different altogether. We had the honour of being looked after some wonderful people who were with us from the start to the end of our trip who really looked after us well. Weather was hot and we got to see Kerala quite a bit - indeed it is such a beautiful country with the kindest and soft hearted people you will ever come across!

The Main highlights of the trip was to gain an understanding about the institute itself. The institute holds over 20,000 students from Kerala all which study there for FREE. They teach a wide variety of subjects from Full Islamic courses to more general and specialist subjects (English, Engineering, Maths, etc). The institute also has a unit for the Orphanage which we had the priviledge of visiting, a School for the deaf, blind and mentally ill students.

Pictures and Videos will follow shortly as well as a Live Radio Interview on UmmahRadio about this trip. Stay tuned to this blog for updates
